One Identity, Nine Surfaces: How Flashy Identity Extends to Agents
A Flashy Citizen has one identity. It follows them across Flashy Social, Flashy Fun, Flashy Finance, Flashy Academy and the rest of the network. What they did in one place counts in the next. That is the whole idea behind Flashy Identity Progression, and it has been the design since before the network had agents in it.
The network now has agents in it. And the same question that identity was built to answer for people turns out to be the question nobody has answered for agents: who is this, based on what it has actually done?
Agents Have the Same Problem Anonymous Accounts Had
Most companies deploying AI agents today are running them the way the early internet ran users — as anonymous sessions. An agent gets an API key, does work, and disappears. There is no persistent record of which agent did what, no accumulated standing, no way to say that this agent has handled four thousand settlement instructions without an exception and that one has been live for a week.
That is exactly the state Flashy Identity was built to replace for people. A profile that lists a balance tells you nothing about whether the person behind it is worth trusting with anything. A key that authenticates an agent tells you nothing about whether the agent is worth trusting with anything either.
So the network gave agents the same treatment it gives citizens. Every agent operating across the nine properties has a durable identity, not a session. It has a name, an owner, a scope, and a history. When it acts, the act attaches to it.
What an Agent Identity Carries
A citizen identity carries reputation, tier, quest history, and the multipliers those unlock. An agent identity carries the operating equivalents:
- Owner. Which human or which team is accountable for what this agent does. There is always one. An agent with no owner does not get credentials.
- Scope. What it is allowed to touch, and on which properties. Identity is what permissions attach to — you cannot scope an anonymous caller. This is covered in How the Network Scopes Its Agents.
- History. Every action it has taken, in order, attributable. Not a log that rotates out — a record that stays. This is what makes an agent's track record a real thing rather than a claim.
- Standing. The agent equivalent of reputation. An agent that has run clean at a given scope for a given volume can be trusted with a wider one. An agent that has not, cannot. Standing is earned by doing, exactly as it is for citizens.
The parallel is not decorative. It is the same identity layer, extended. The network did not build a second system for agents; it widened the definition of who can hold an identity.
Why One Identity Across Nine Surfaces Is the Hard Part
Any single application can issue its own agent credentials. That is trivial. The difficulty appears at the second property, and it compounds at the ninth.
If an agent's identity is local to Flashy Finance, then the agent that moves value there is a stranger when it arrives at Flashy Academy. Its record does not travel. Its scope has to be re-granted from nothing, by someone who cannot see what it has already done. Every property becomes a fresh trust decision made on no information — which is to say, made on nothing.
Multiply that by nine and you have the situation most multi-product companies are walking into right now: agents everywhere, standing nowhere, and no consolidated answer to a regulator, an auditor, or a board member asking who authorised the thing that moved the money.
One identity across nine surfaces means the answer exists in one place. The agent that settles a reward on Flashy Finance is the same identity that reads a completion event from Flashy Academy, and its record is one record. People and Agents on the Same Ledger
The reason this matters commercially, rather than just architecturally, is that the network's economy does not distinguish between the two.
A citizen earns Flashy Gold by doing. An agent, acting for a citizen or for the network, also does. When an agent completes work that produces value, that value has to land somewhere attributable — to an owner, against a scope, with a record. That is only possible if the agent has an identity in the first place.
Put the two on the same ledger and something useful falls out: the network can tell you, for any unit of economic activity, whether a person or an agent produced it, which one, under whose authority, and what happened before and after. Very few organisations can answer that question today about their own workforce, let alone their agents.
The Category Question
Every company that deploys agents at scale will eventually be asked to name them — by a customer, by a counterparty, by a regulator. The ones that treated agents as sessions will not be able to. The ones that treated agents as identities will.
Flashy runs the second way because it was already running that way for people. The identity layer that turned participation into standing across nine consumer properties is the same layer that turns agent activity into an accountable record. It was not retrofitted for agents. Agents were simply the next kind of participant.
